Timeline to Prepare for the ACT Test
One of the most frequently asked questions from parents is “when should our child begin preparing for the ACT?” Test preparation is never one size fits all. At Patel Tutoring, we pride ourselves in offering a customized approach suitable for the needs for each child. That being said, there is a window where children tend to perform better on this test. Because we are certified teachers who have experience in both public and private schools in Tennessee, we are familiar with ACT testing timelines.
ACT Timeline for TN High School Students
Students are exposed to testing at a young age. They begin taking the pre-ACT as freshmen and sophomores in high school. In the Wilson County public school system, each child will have two opportunities to take the ACT on the computer. The first opportunity is in the spring of their junior year and the second is in October of their senior year. We encourage parents who have children enrolled in public school not to wait until the free test in the spring of their child's junior year to begin preparing.
ACT Math
Most students who come to us for support on the ACT struggle with the math content, simply because they have forgotten most of it. The ACT math encompasses material that most kids have learned by 10th grade. The optimal time to begin test prep is after the student completes Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry. This makes up ninety to ninety-five percent of the mathematics portion of the test. In addition, if your child is wanting to take a dual enrollment course, a minimum ACT score is required. Requirements vary by university and we encourage you to speak with your child’s guidance counselor about this.
